1. Summary


The last month of the Project Phase II saw two major events. The National Dissemination Seminar of the Project was held at NIHFW, New Delhi on 6th December 2010 (see section 2A). The fourth Common Review Mission was held from 16th -22nd December 2010, wherein one of the districts selected was from the Project area (see section 3B).
JICA TQM Consultant was invited as a Guest Speaker at the Bio Medical Waste management Seminar in Gwalior on 24th December 2010 (see section 3A).


2. International/National level activities


A. National Dissemination Seminar of JICA MP RH Project held at NIHFW, New Delhi
 

  • The National Dissemination Seminar of JICA MP Reproductive Health Project was held on 6th December 2010 at the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi.
  • The purpose of the Seminar was to share the Project interventions and its impact at the National level.
  • Mr. Shinichi Yamanaka, Chief Representative, JICA India Office, gave the welcome speech.
    Dr. Manohar Agnani IAS, Mission Director NHRM, DoHFW, Madhya Pradesh, made a presentation on “JICA Project’s interventions to support NRHM activities”.
  • The delegates comprised of Officials from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh; Representatives from various Development Agencies and Members from NIHFW and Academic institutions.

A. JICA TQM Consultant invited for the Seminar on Bio Medical Waste Management

B. Common Review Mission

  • The fourth Common Review Mission (CRM) under NRHM was held from 16th-22nd December 2010.
  • Khargone and Damoh districts (JICA Project area) were selected for the review in Madhya Pradesh.
  • The National CRM team comprised of Dr. Dinesh Baswal, Assistant Commissioner, Maternal Health, MoHFW, GoI; Ms. Yasmin Zaveri, Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi;
    Mr. K. Kaushal, Finance Analyst, NRHM, New Delhi; and Ms. Aparna Kullu, Consultant, NRHM, New Delhi

4. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 12th January 2011- Ms. Dimple Save, Capacity Development Coordinator, attended the Consultative workshop on MP Nutrition Project by World Food Programme, at Khajuraho, Chhatarpur. Ms. Save made a presentation on JICA’s role in combating malnutrition in Sagar division.
  • 3rd January 2011- Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; Ms. Mari Tsuda, Project Coordinator; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, TQM Consultant and Project Operations Manager, had a meeting with Dr. K.L. Sahu, Regional Joint Director, Sagar and Bhopal divisions, DoHFW, GoMP, to discuss about the distribution of Project materials to the districts.
  • 7th December 2010 – Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, TQM Consultant and Project Operations Manager, met Prof. Neeraj Kumar Sethi, Senior Advisor, Planning Commission, GoI, to discuss about the Project’s strategy and achievements. Ms. Makiko Konohara, JICA India Office was also present during the meeting.

Monthly Progress Report November 2010

1. Summary

Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Consultant- TQM and Project Operations Manager, attended the Partners’ Forum on Women’s and Children’s Health at the Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi (see section 2A).
JICA team oriented the Data Officers of DoHFW, GoMP on the use of GIS (see section 3A).
In Tikamgarh district, the district has involved the JICA Block Coordinators, in the Measles campaign (see section 3B).


2. International/National level activities

A. JICA team invited for the Partners’ Forum on Women’s and Children’s Health, New Delhi (13-14 November 2010)

  • Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager & TQM Consultant, were invited by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India to participate in the Partners’ Forum on Women’s and Children’s Health at the Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, from 13th – 14th November 2010.

3. Development in the Project area /field


A. JICA Consultants oriented the Data Officers of DoHFW on use of GIS (19 – 21 November 2010)

  • The training on GIS usage was organised by JICA MP RH Project at Crescent Resort & Club, Sehore, from 19 – 21 November 2010.
  • The participants included State Data Analysts and Officers (5); Programmer from RJD office, Sagar; and District Data Analysts (4) from Sagar division.
  • The Training was facilitated by JICA Consultants, Ms. Richa Som, Consultant- HMIS and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager & Consultant- TQM.

B. Measles campaign in Tikamgarh

  • The district has planned for a Measles campaign from 6th – 27th December 2010.
  • As a part of the preparation, planning meetings for orientation of health and ICDS frontline workers (ANM, MPWm, AWW) were held at district and block levels and orientation conducted.
  • JICA Block Coordinators, Mr. Manoj Singh Chouhan and Mr. Altaf Ali, were invited by the district to be involved in the planning meetings as well as orientation and give their inputs.

4. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 16th November 2010 – Mr. Taisuke Watanabe, Deputy Resident Representative, JICA India Office, visited Bhopal Project office to hold a meeting with the JOCVs posted in Damoh and Tikamgarh.
  • 11th November 2010 - A State Level Maternal Death Review Workshop was organized by Maternal Health Division, NRHM with the UNFPA support on 11th and 12th November 2010 at Hotel Lake View Ashoka Bhopal. Ms. Richa Som, Consultant-HMIS, participated in the workshop and gave inputs for the same.
  • 11th November 2010 – Ms. Makiko Konohara, Project Formulation Advisor, JICA India Office, visited Bhopal and met Mr. J.N.Kansotiya, Health Commissioner; and Dr. Manohar Agnani, Mission Director NRHM, to discuss about the National Dissemination Seminar of JICA/ MP-RHP.
  • 2nd November 2010 – Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant – TQM, visited Bundelkhand Medical College and had meeting with Dr. S.C.Tiwari, Dean, to discuss about the evaluation study.

B. Meeting with DEA, Finance

  • Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, participated in the meeting called by the DEA, Finance, Government of Madhya Pradesh at Vallabh Bhawan, Bhopal on
    20th October 2010.
  • The meeting was held to discuss the progress of project being carried out by JICA and DfID and JICA’s investment plan for the coming years.

Monthly Progress Report September 2010

1. Summary

The Terminal Evaluation Mission visited Madhya Pradesh from 23rd August –
9th September 2010 to evaluate the Project impact. The Joint Review Meeting was held on 8th September 2010 (see section 2A) followed by the Dissemination Seminar on 9th September 2010 (see section 2B).
Mr. Taisuke Watanabe, Deputy Resident Representative, JICA India Office, New Delhi visited the Project site (see section 2C).
Dr. Yoichi Yamagata attended the meeting of the Development Partners held at New Delhi on 28th September 2010.

  • The Terminal Evaluation Mission led by Mr. Shohei Hara, Director of South Asia Department, JICA HQ Tokyo, visited Madhya Pradesh from 23rd August –
    9th September 2010, for reviewing the achievements and impacts of the Project before the closure of Phase II in January 2011.
  • Dr. Akiko Hagiwara, Senior Advisor for RH, JICA HQ Tokyo; Ms. Junko Sato, Consultant, Tac International Tokyo; and Ms. Makiko Konohara, Project Formulation Advisor, JICA India Office, New Delhi, were the members of the Mission.

B. Dissemination Seminar held to share the findings of the Terminal Evaluation Mission

  • A Dissemination Seminar to share the findings and recommendations of the Terminal Evaluation Mission, led by Mr. Shohei Hara, for JICA MP RH Project, was held in Bhopal on 9th September 2010.
  • The Seminar was chaired by Mr. S.R.Mohanty, Secretary Health, DoHFW, GoMP.
  • The participants included Mr. J.N.Kansotiya, Health Commissioner;
    Dr. A.N.Mittal, Director Public Health; Dr. K.L.Sahu, Regional Joint Director, Sagar division; and other State Officials from DoHFW. Representatives of Development agencies like MP TAST, UNFPA and NIPI were also present.
  • The participants from Sagar division included Chief Medical & Health Officers and District Program Managers.

C. Visit of Mr. Taisuke Watanabe to Project site

Monthly Progress Report August 2010

1. Summary

The month of August 2010 was very crucial for the Project as the Terminal Evaluation Mission visited to evaluate the Project impact (see section 3A). A Dissemination Seminar, post evaluation, was held to share the findings by the Terminal Evaluation Mission (see section 3B). Prior to the review meeting and the dissemination seminar, a field visit was made by the Mission to the Project site (see section 3C).
The State Institute of Health Management & Communication (SIHMC), Gwalior, has started the course on Public Health management, in collaboration with Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) (see section 2A). JICA TQM Consultant presented a poster at the Global Maternal Health Conference (see section 2B).

The Project has been made for focal point for mapping and GIS plotting of MCH centres in the State (see section 3D).

2. International/National level activities

A. Course on Public Health Management inaugurated at SIHMC, Gwalior

  • Dr. Manohar Agnani, IAS, Mission Director NRHM, inaugurated the first batch of the Public Health Management course on 17th August 2010 at the State Institute of Health Management & Communication (SIHMC), Gwalior, in collaboration with the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI).

  • Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, TQM Consultant and Project Operations Manager, attended the inaugural function.

B. JICA TQM Consultant presented a poster at the Global Maternal Health Conference

  • The Global Maternal Health Conference was held from 30th August–1st September 2010 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

  • A paper titled, “Strengthening Maternal Health Services in Rural Areas” by the TQM Consultant, JICA Project, was selected for poster presentation at the Conference.

  • Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; Dr. Aboli Gore, HRM Consultant; Ms. Dimple Save, Capacity Development Coordinator; and Mr. Imteyaz Ahmed, Block Coordinator (JICA/MP-RHP team) accompanied the Mission.
  • The team of Government Officials comprised of Dr. K. L. Sahu, Regional Joint Director, Sagar division, DoHFW; Dr. J. P. Khare, Deputy Director, Immunization & VHND, DoHFW; Mr. Jaimon Thomas, DPM Damoh; and Dr. Rajesh Namdeo, Medical Officer, CHC Tendukheda.

D. Active involvement of Project in facilitating identification of MCH centres using GIS maps

  • Dr. Archana Mishra, Deputy Director, Maternal Health, DoHFW, GoMP, invited JICA Consultants to facilitate the planning for MCH centres.
  • Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, TQM Consultant and Project Operations Manager; attended the meeting held on 20th August 2010.
    Dr. Manohar Agnani, Mission Director, NRHM, announced that JICA would be the focal point for mapping and GIS plotting of MCH centres and all the Regional offices should contact the Project team.
  • All the divisions were asked to communicate with the Project office for finalization of the MCH centres and their plotting. The Project provided telephonic consultation for criteria of identification of the centres.
  • On 25th August 2010, a meeting for identification and planning of MCH centres was facilitated by Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant, in JICA Office. The participants included DPMs of all the districts of Bhopal division, Divisional Program Manager of Bhopal division and Mr. Puran Chand Pandey, Consultant NIPI, Bhopal division.
  • On 27th August 2010, a meeting was called to review the maps of all the divisions.
    Dr. Rakesh Munshi, Joint Director, HMIS, NRHM; and Dr. Archana Mishra, Deputy Director, Maternal Health; were present for the meeting and took a decision to present the maps of Gwalior and Bhopal divisions at the meeting to be held in New Delhi on 31st August 2010. Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant; and Dr. Aboli Gore, HRM Consultant, attended the meeting.

 

E. First Planning meeting for the Program Implementation Plan (PIP) 2010 -2011 held in Tikamgarh

  • The team from NHSRC comprised of Dr. Abhilash Malik and Dr. Amit Mishra invited Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant, as a facilitator for the planning meeting in Tikamgarh.
  • The preliminary meeting for the Program Implementation Plan (PIP) 2010 -2011 was held in Tikamgarh on 31st August 2010.

4. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 30th – 31st August 2010 – An orientation workshop on “Communication / Media units promoting developmental themes in Madhya Pradesh” was organised by UNICEF. The participants included representatives from the Department of Field Publicity. On request from UNICEF office, the Project deputed Ms. Rohini and Mr. Kamlesh Mishra, Capacity Development Coordinators, to share the IEC materials developed by the Project, with the participants.
  • 19th August 2010 – Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, had a meeting with
    Mr. S. R. Mohanty, Secretary Health, regarding the application for Phase 3 of the Project.
  • 5th August 2010 – Mr. Taisuke Watanabe, Deputy Resident Representative, JICA India Office, New Delhi; and Ms. Makiko Konohara, Project Formulation Advisor, JICA India Office, New Delhi; and Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, had a meeting with Mr. J. N. Kansotiya, Health Commissioner, to inform the State about the Terminal Evaluation to be held for the Project.

Monthly Progress Report July 2010

1. Summary

In the month of June 2010, a multi media team from Japan visited the Project site to shoot a film on the Project interventions. (see section 3A).

Ms. Tomoko Tanaka, Japanese Volunteer, joined Tikamgarh district on 22nd July 2010 (see section 3B).

In the Project area, apart from the routine Project activities, the Consultants facilitated the TOT on Core Competency in Tikamgarh district (see section 3C).


2. Development in the Project area /field

A. Multi Media team from Japan visited Project site

  • A team of multimedia experts comprising of Mr. Hiromu Takemura, Mr. Shinya Miyazawa, and Mr. Masami Hayashi visited the Project site from 19th – 28th July 2010 to shoot a film on the Project interventions.

B. Japanese Volunteer joins Tikamgarh district

  • Ms. Keiko Haneoka, JOCV Program Coordinator; and Ms. Priti Manchanda, JICA India Office, visited Tikamgarh district to give a courtesy call to the district officials and to introduce the second JOCV, Ms. Tomoko Tanaka (Midwife) on 22nd July 2010.


C. TOT on Core Competency held in Tikamgarh district

  • Following the State TOT on Core Competency held in June 2010, directives were issued to the districts to conduct the TOT in their respective areas.
  • The TOT of Tikamgarh district was held on 29th July 2010.
  • JICA Consultants, Dr. Aboli Gore and Ms. Richa Som, facilitated the TOT.
  • Mr. Kamlesh Mishra, Capacity Development Coordinator; and JICA Block Coordinators were also present for the TOT.


3. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 27th July 2010 – Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM, attended the consultation meeting called by the Mission Director, NRHM, DoHFW, GoMP, for IEC on IUD insertion.
  • 22nd July 2010 – A meeting was called by Dr. Manohar Agnani, Mission Director NRHM, for preliminary discussion on allocation of MCH Centres across the State. Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, attended the meeting.
  • 19th July 2010 – A meeting of Development Partners was held in UNICEF office, Bhopal to discuss about the programmatic support to be provided for the 19 low performing districts distributed among the Partners. Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager & Consultant TQM, attended the meeting.
  • 14th July 2010 – Dr. Manohar Agnani, Mission Director, NRHM, called a meeting to discuss and roll out the Modules 6 and 7 for ASHA training in the State.
    Dr. T. Sundararaman and Dr. Rajni Ved from NHSRC were present for the meeting. The other participants included Joint Directors, Deputy Directors and members of Development Partners. Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM, attended the meeting.
  • 8th July 2010 – Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager & Consultant TQM; and Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, attended a meeting called by Dr. T. Sundararaman and Dr. Padmanabhan at NHSRC, New Delhi. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and finalise about training of Nurse Trainers and Nursing staff of health facilities of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on SBA training and providing supportive supervision. The NHSRC team wants JICA Project to orient the Nursing Staff in Damoh district.
  • 7th July 2010 – Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS; Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager & Consultant TQM, had a meeting with Ms. Madhubala Tyagi, Additional Director General; and Mr. Praveen Shrivastava, MoHFW, to discuss about the structure and design principles of the Primary Health Registers and to share about the Project interventions.

Monthly Progress Report June 2010

1. Summary

In the month of June 2010, Mr. Shinichi Yamanaka, the new Chief Representative of JICA India Office, visited the Project area and the Project office at Bhopal, to observe the progress of the Project activities (see section 3A).
Ms. Shivani Vats, MoHFW, GoI, visited Panna district and appreciated the JICA Project interventions (see section 3B).

At State level, the Department of Health & Family Welfare, was busy with preparations for the “NRHM: Review and Thematic Workshop” to be held from 2nd – 4th July 2010 in Bhopal. All the Development Partners, including JICA MP-RHP, were involved in the planning process.


2. International/National level activities

A. JICA Consultant presents paper at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie

Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM, was invited on 14th June 2010, to present the highlights of the paper titled, ‘TQM Initiatives in Rural Health Centres’, which was published in the Service Quality Journal of LBSNAA, September 2009.

3. Development in the Project area /field

A. Chief Representative, JICA India Office visited Project site

  • Mr. Shinichi Yamanaka, Chief Representative, and Ms. Makiko Konohara, Program Specialist, JICA India Office visited Damoh and Sagar districts of the Project area on 15th June 2010.
  • Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; Ms. Mari Tsuda, Project Coordinator; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM, accompanied them.
  • Dr. K.K. Tamrakar, Regional Joint Director, Sagar division; Dr. A.K. Shrivastava, CMHO, Damoh; and Mr. Jaimon Thomas, District Program Manager (DPM), Damoh, were present during the field visit in Damoh.
  • In Sagar, the JICA Officials had a meeting with Dr. K.K. Tamrakar, Regional Joint Director, Sagar division; Dr. B.K. Mishra, CMHO Sagar; and Mr. Kapil Dev Parashar, DPM, Sagar, about the progress of JICA Project interventions in Sagar district.

B. Official from Government of India visits Panna district

  • Ms. Shivani Vats from MoHFW, GoI, visited Panna district from 19th – 20th June 2010.
  • She was accompanied by Mr. Maharaj Singh, DPM Panna, to CHCs Amanganj, Pawai and Gunnor; PHCs Saleha, Raipura; SHCs Sathaniya, Maheba, Bisani Badwar, Badagaon to assess the progress made by the health facilities.
  • Ms. Shivani appreciated the efforts of JICA Project in the district.



4. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 29th June 2010 – Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the meeting called by the Mission Director, NRHM, DoHFW, GoMP, for the preparation of the NRHM National Workshop to be held in Bhopal from 2nd – 4th July 2010.
  • 25th June 2010 – Mr. S.R.Mohanty, Secretary Health, DoHFW, GoMP, called for a meeting of all Development Partners to discuss about the NRHM National workshop to be held in Bhopal from 2nd – 4th July 2010.
  • 10th June 2010 – The Department of Health & Family Welfare, GoMP, organized a two days Training of Trainers on Core Competency from 7th – 10th June 2010, in 2 batches. Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager & Consultant TQM ; and Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, explained the mechanism of cascade training and how to use the training materials which were handed over to the participants (Gynecologists, DPMs, Tutors) of each district (all 50 districts).

Monthly Progress Report May 2010

1. Summary

Varieties of activities happened in the month of May 2010 at different levels. The month of May witnessed the visit of National (Dr. Naresh Kumar, Consultant Training division, MoHFW) as well as State Health Officials (Dr. Dhanila Narayan, Deputy Director IEC & Training, DoHFW, GoMP) to the Project site. The Project efforts were well appreciated by the officials (see Section 3A and 3B). International Midwives’ Day was celebrated on 5th May 2010 in Bhopal, wherein Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, was invited as a Special Guest, while Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM, was the Guest of Honour (see Section 3C). Dr. Gore was also invited to participate in the TOT of Master Trainers on a Two Days Foundation Course for re-orientation of Medical Officers in Basic Essential Obstetric Care from 24th May 2010 to 3rd June 2010 at NIHFW, New Delhi (see Section 2A).

The DoHFW, GoMP, would be organizing a two days TOT from 7th – 10th May 2010
(2 batches), to orient the Master Trainers of all the 50 districts on Core Competency. JICA Project is involved in the facilitation of the orientation (see Section 3G). The Village Health Registers and Labour Room Registers have been developed by JICA Project and soft copy of the same has been requested by the DoHFW, GoMP, for finalization and circulation across the State (see Section 3H).
In the Project area of Sagar division, block level orientations on BMW management (Panna and Sagar) and NRHM reporting formats (Panna) have been completed (see Sections 3E and 3F).


2. International/National level activities

A. Government of India Official visited Project site

  • The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and NIHFW, New Delhi, in collaboration with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), UK, and Royal College of Gynecologists (RCOG), UK, with support from DFID UK and DFID India, developed a Two Days Foundation Course for re-orientation of Medical Officers in Basic Essential Obstetric Care (BEmONC).

  • A TOT of Master Trainers from Madhya Pradesh has been organized from 24th May – 3rd June 2010 at NIHFW, New Delhi.

  • Dr. Himanhsu Bhushan, Assistant Commissioner, Maternal Health, MoHFW, vide D.O. No. 12015/39/2009-MCH dated 10th May 2010 had asked the Department of Health & Family Welfare, GoMP, to depute officials for the TOT.

  • Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM, was also invited to participate in the TOT.

3. Development in the Project area /field

A. Government of India Official visited Project site

  • Dr. Naresh Kumar, Consultant Training division, MoHFW, visited Damoh district from 10th – 11th May 2010 to observe the SBA training methodology.
  • He was impressed by the training methodology being practiced by the district, as well as, the teaching aids developed and provided by the Project.
  • Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM, were present during the discussion with the tutors and trainees.
  • He mentioned that the training methodology and the sessions are so well planned and meticulously followed that Damoh can be quoted at the National level for any visitor wishing to observe the SBA training.

B. Visit of State Government Official to Project site

  • Dr. Dhanila Narayan, Deputy Director, IEC & Training, DoHFW, GoMP, visited Damoh district from 17th – 18th May 2010 to observe the Village Health & Nutrition Day organization.
  • Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM, along with Mr. Jaimon Thomas, District Program Manager (DPM), Damoh accompanied her.
  • She appreciated the organized VHND session and also praised the Project’s Technical Cooperation for such sessions in the Project area.

C. JICA team invited as for the celebration of International Midwives’ Day

  • Society of Midwives in India (SOMI) Bhopal Chapter and Pragyan Nursing College, Bhopal had co-organised an event to celebrate the International Midwives’ Day on
    5th May 2010, at Ravindra Bhavan, Bhopal.
  • Mr. Mahendra Hardia, State Minister for Health & Family Welfare was the Chief Guest.
  • Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager was invited as a Special Guest, while
    Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM, was the Guest of Honour.

D. Meeting of Block Medical Officers of Sagar district

  • The regular monthly meeting of BMOs of Sagar district was held at CHC Kesli on 10th May 2010.
  • The CMHO, Dr. B.K.Mishra, had requested JICA team to participate in the meeting and highlight the achievements of various blocks in the district.
  • JICA team showed the progress of the facilities through the GIS maps, especially, maternity wing organization and BMW management.
  • The team also discussed about the NRHM reporting formats and MH cards.

E. Orientation on BMW management in Panna and Sagar districts

  • Block level orientation on Bio Medical Waste management was held in 4 blocks of Panna district on 19th and 20th May 2010. JICA Capacity Development Coordinators, Mr. Kamlesh Mishra, Ms. Rohini and Ms. Dimple Save, facilitated the orientation.
  • Block level orientation on management of Bio Medical Waste was facilitated by
    Ms. Rohini and Ms. Dimple Save, Capacity Development Coordinators, in Niwari block of Tikamgarh district on 20th April 2010.
  • the participants included BMO, BPM, Staff Nurses, LHVs, ANMs, Ward boy, Radiographer, lab technicians, store-keeper, dresser, DEO, ayahs and sweepers.

F. Orientation on NRHM reporting formats in Panna district

  • The block level orientation on the new NRHM reporting formats was held in all the 5 blocks of Panna district between 5th and 12th May 2010.
  • Mr. B.L.Pandey, retired BEE, facilitated the orientation along with Mr. Kamlesh Mishra, Capacity Development Coordinator; and Mr. Maroti Lohat, Block Coordinator, JICA Project.
  • The participants (254) included ANMs, MPWm, LHVs and Male Supervisors from the field. The block staff included BEE, BPM and DEO.

G. Training of Trainers on Core Competency

  • The Department of Health & Family Welfare has decided to conduct a refresher course for ANMs of the State to ensure quality service delivery at the field level.
  • As the first step, a two days Training of Trainers (TOT) has been planned from 7th – 10th June 2010 at Bhopal, wherein selected Master Trainers from all the 50 districts would be trained in 2 batches.
  • The Director NRHM, DoHFW, vide letter nos. RCH/MH/2010/593 dated 20th May 2010, has instructed all the Regional Joint Directors, CMHOs, Civil Surgeons, Director SIHMC Gwalior and Principals of RHFWTCs of the State to identify the Master Trainers in their districts and send them for the TOT.
  • The participants would include Gynecologists, Divisional Program Managers and District Program Managers from all the 50 districts.
  • JICA has been requested to take the lead in facilitation of the TOT.

H. Village Health Registers and Labour Room Registers

  • The Village Health Registers and Labour Room Registers developed by JICA Project were discussed during the meeting taken by the Health Minister on 11th May 2010 at the Directorate, Health & Family Welfare.
  • Soft copies of both the registers were requested, which were handed over to the department by the Project.


4. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 29th May 2010 – Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the meeting held in NRHM office, Bhopal, during the visit of Ms. K. Sujatha Rao, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, to Madhya Pradesh. The purpose of her visit was to review the NRHM performance of the State.
  • 25th May 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the Development Partners’ meeting held at UNICEF office, New Delhi, to discuss about the role of Development Partners in the high focus districts.
  • 20th May 2010 – Dr. Archana Mishra, Deputy Director, Maternal Health; and
    Dr. Apoorva Chaturvedi, Training Consultant, Maternal Health, DoHFW, GoMP, visited Project office to discuss and plan for the process of 2 days TOT on Core Competency to be held in June 2010.
  • 13th May 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, met Ms. Konohara at JICA India office to discuss about the progress of the Project interventions.
  • 13th May 2010 – Dr. B.S.Ohri, Joint Director (TB) and State TB Officer, visited Project office and requested for plotting GIS maps showing District wise performance in RNTCP, to be included in his presentation for the WHO team visit to Madhya Pradesh.
  • 12th May 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the Development Partners’ meeting in New Delhi.
  • 3rd May 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the Development Partners’ meeting held at UNICEF office, Bhopal, to discuss about DP coordination in the State.

Monthly Progress Report April 2010

1. Summary

  • Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh gets an award at the commemoration of 5 years of NRHM.

  • Dr. Aboli Gore, HRM Consultant, was invited for the JSY Evaluation meeting held in New Delhi on 8th April 2010.

  • An impact assessment of the Project interventions was carried out by NIHFW, New Delhi, from 5th April – 14th April 2010 in Damoh and Tikamgarh districts.

  • Orientation on new NRHM reporting formats was completed for Sagar and Tikamgarh districts.


2. International/National level activities

A. Commemoration of 5 years of NRHM

  • The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Madhya Pradesh was awarded
    2nd prize by Shri M. Hamid Ansari, Hon’ble Vice President of India as one of the best performing states, on the occasion of Commemoration of Five Years of National Rural Health Mission on 12th April 2010.

  • Mr. S.R.Mohanty, Secretary Health; and Dr. Manohar Agnani, Commissioner Health, received the award on behalf of the Department.

  • Mr S Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM; Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Ms Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, attended the function on invitation from Government of India and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh.

B. JICA Consultant invited for JSY Evaluation meeting

  • The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has commissioned a study to evaluate the Janani Suraksha Yojna.

  • A JSY (Janani Suraksha Yojna) Evaluation Advisory Group has been formed at National level. Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM, is a member of this group.

  • Dr. Aboli Gore attended the meeting held at NSHRC on 8th April 2010 and gave inputs for finalizing the study design.

3. Development in the Project area /field

A. External Evaluation of JICA Project

  • Impact assessment of the JICA Project interventions was carried out in Damoh and Tikamgarh districts in this month between 5th April and 14th April 2010.
  • A team of 11 members from the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi, led by Dr. Thaneswar Bir, Professor, Department of Social Sciences, conducted the survey.

B. Orientation on Bio Medical Waste management

Tikamgarh

  • Block level orientation on management of Bio Medical Waste was held in Niwari block of Tikamgarh district on 20th April 2010.
  • The participants (32) included the entire CHC staff – BMO, BPM, Staff Nurses, LHV, ANM, Lab technician, store keeper, dresser, Ward boys, Ayahs and Sweepers.

C. Orientation on NRHM reporting formats


Sagar

  • Block level orientation in the remaining 5 blocks were held between 1st April and
    8th April 2010.
  • Mr. B.L.Pandey facilitated the orientations. Block Coordinator, Mr. Arif, was also present during the orientations.


Tikamgarh

  • Block level orientation on NRHM reporting formats was held in Prithvipur and Niwari blocks on 21st April 2010.
  • JICA Coordinators (Ms. Rohini and Ms. Dimple Save) facilitated the orientation. The Block Coordinator was also present during the orientation.
  • The participants included ANMs, MPWm, LHVs and MPS from the field and BEE, DEO, BPM and other block staff.

  • 26th April 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; Ms. Makiko Konohara, Project Formulation Advisor, JICA India Office; and Ms. Aditi Puri, Development Specialist, JICA India Office, met Ms. Yasmin, Sida, Delhi office to discuss about reinforcement of Midwifery cadre.
  • 23rd and 24th April 2010 - Mr. Anup Mishra, Health Minister, GoMP, called for a review meeting of all the CMHOs of Madhya Pradesh at Narmada Bhavan, Bhopal. Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, was invited to participate in the meeting.
    Dr. Yamagata attended the meeting on both the days.
  • 21st April 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager met Mr. Yamanaka, Representative JICA India Office, to discuss about the procedures for Terminal/Final/Endline Evaluation of the Project
  • 21st April 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager attended the Development Partners’ meeting held at UNICEF office for preparation of JRM 7.
  • 19th April 2010 – Dr. Archana Mishra, Deputy Director, Maternal Health, DoHFW, called for a meeting of all the Development Partners to discuss on the new Government of India guidelines on Maternal Death Review. JICA Consultants
    (Mr S Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM; Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Ms Richa Som, Consultant HMIS) attended the meeting. The other participants included members from UNICEF and MP TAST.
  • 9th April 2010 – JICA Consultants (Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, and Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM) attended the meeting on operationalising Name Based Tracking, called by Dr. Rakesh Munshi, Joint Director, HMIS, DoHFW. The other participants included State officials, State Data Operators and Consultants from MP TAST.
  • 2nd and 3rd April 2010 - Mr. Anup Mishra, Health Minister, GoMP, called for a review meeting of Department of Health & Family Welfare at SIHMC Gwalior. Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, was invited for the meeting. Dr. Yamagata attended the meeting on the first day.

1. Summary

  • Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, was invited for the Annual Midwifery Conference held in Japan from 20th – 21st March 2010.

  • JICA Consultants oriented the Block Program Managers of Sagar division.

  • Orientation of ANMs for conducting safe deliveries at SHCs and district level orientation on NRHM reporting formats were the 2 major activities held in Panna district.

  • JICA Project supplied and installed GIS software in Damoh and Panna districts.

  • Block level orientation on NRHM reporting formats initiated in Sagar district.

A. Orientation of Block Program Managers of Sagar division

  • A two days orientation program of Block Program Managers of Sagar division was organized by JICA Project from 18th – 19th March 2010 in Sagar.
  • Dr. K.K.Tamrakar, Regional Joint Director Health, Sagar division, inaugurated the orientation.
  • Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM; Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, facilitated the orientation.
  • The BPMs were oriented mainly on the following issues -
    • Village Health & Nutrition Day (VHND) – video film developed by the Project was shown to the BPMs. Following this, discussion was held on the role of BPMs in facilitation of VHNDs in their respective blocks
    • SHC organization and Maternity Wing organization – video films developed by the Project were shown and discussions held
    • Facility organization - the BPMs were oriented on the logical arrangement of the facility to facilitate smooth functioning of the facility and make it more client- friendly.
    • Health Management Information System – to help the BPMs to develop a better understanding about data quality and validation

B. Orientation of ANMs to organize SHCs identified to provide delivery care in Panna

  • An orientation of 13 ANMs of the identified SHCs for providing delivery services was held on 23rd March 2010 at the District Training Centre in Panna.
  • The purpose was to orient the ANMs to organize their SHCs for conducting deliveries. JICA team shared the SHC Package with the ANMs to equip them and motivate them to take up this new challenge.
  • JICA team comprising of Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM facilitated the orientation.

C. Orientation on NRHM reporting formats


District level

  • A one day orientation on the new NRHM reporting formats was held on 23rd March 2010 in Panna.
  • JICA Consultants, Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS; Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager & Consultant TQM; and Mr. Kamlesh Mishra, Capacity Development Coordinator, facilitated the orientation.
  • The participants included Block Program Managers (BPM), BEE, DEO and Data Managers from all the 5 blocks of Panna district. Mr. Raghavendra, District Data Assistant, was also present for the orientation.

Block level

  • Block level orientation on NRHM reporting formats was held in 5 blocks of Sagar district between 15th and 31st March 2010.
  • Mr. B.L.Pandey, retired BEE, facilitated the orientation. The Block Coordinator was also present during the orientation.
  • The participants included ANMs, MPWm, LHVs and MPS from the field and BEE, DEO, BPM and other block staff.
  • The remaining blocks will be taken up in the month of April 2010.

 

D. GIS software working in Damoh, Tikamgarh and Panna districts

  • JOCVs (Japanese Volunteers), Mr. Yuta Kono and Mr. Yuta Yamauchi were placed in Damoh in the month of November 2009. Both of them have been trained on the use of GIS software.
  • Mr. Yuta Yamauchi was shifted to Tikamgarh district on 25th February 2010.
  • The GIS software was installed in Damoh on 4th March 2010 and Mr. Manoj, DPMU, Damoh was trained on the use of the software.
  • On request by the District Health Society and the CMHO of Panna district vide letter nos. 3615 dated 23rd March 2010, the GIS software was installed in Panna on 29th March 2010.
  • Mr. Danish Khan, imparted the primary training on the use of the software to
    Mr. Meghendra and Mr. Raghavendra, Panna.

E. Panch Sarpanch Sammelan in Tikamgarh

  • The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Madhya Pradesh, organised a gathering of the newly elected Sarpanchs orient them about the health programs and various schemes to ensure better coordination the Health and Panchayat departments.
  • JICA Project Block Coordinators, Mr. Manoj S. Chouhan and Mr. Altaf Ali, were requested by the BMOs to highlight the Project initiatives on Maternal Health and VHND during the Sammelans

4. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 30th March 2010 - The Chief Minister, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, launched a new scheme called ‘Prerana’, to mark the celebration of the year 2010 – 2011 as the Family Planning Year. Mr. Mahendra Hardia, Minister of State, Department of Public Health & Family Welfare, was invited as a Special Guest. Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, was invited for the inauguration function held at the residence of the Chief Minister.
  • 12th March 2010 – Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM; Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, met Dr. Archana Mishra, Deputy Director, Maternal Health to discuss about the Project interventions.
  • 12th March 2010 - Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM; Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, met Dr. Rajeev Shrivastava, Deputy Director, HMIS, to discuss about the case based tracking system to be launched in the State.
  • 12th March 2010 – Mr. Taposh Roy and Mr. Sanjay, DfiD, visited the Project office.
  • 10th March 2010 – Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the Development Partners’ meeting held in UNFPA office, New Delhi. The discussion was about the 7th JRM.
  • 10th March 2010 – Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM, attended the meeting called by Dr. P.R.Deo, State Representative, UNFPA in their office.
    Dr. Marc derveeuw, Country Deputy Representative, UNFPA, was on a visit to Madhya Pradesh from 8th – 10th March 2010 and expressed his wish to meet with the Development Partners of the State to explore areas of collaboration.

Monthly Progress Report February 2010

1. Summary

  • The month of February saw a series of activities, from the National level upto the block level.

  • JICA TQM Consultant was invited for the National Quality Conclave from 19th – 20th February 2010, at New Delhi.

  • JICA TQM Consultant was also invited by the Regional Office of MPPCB, Bhopal as a Guest Speaker for the BMW management workshop in Vidisha on 21st February 2010.

  • JJICA TQM Consultant participated in the HMIS Training organized by the State for Sagar division on 24th February 2010.

  • JICA team attended the meeting of the District Collectors called by the Commissioner, Sagar division, on 24th February 2010.p>

  • District Collector of Panna district invited JICA team for the meeting of the doctors of the district.

  • JICA team oriented the ANMs of 18 identified SHCs for conducting deliveries.

  • Block level orientation on BMW management was held in Damoh and Tikamgarh districts.

  • Block level orientation on NRHM reporting formats was held in Tikamgarh and Chhatarpur districts.


2. Development in the field / Project area

A. JICA Consultant invited for the National Quality Conclave

  • A two days National Quality Conclave was organized by the Quality Council of India (QCI) in New Delhi from 19th – 20th February 2010.

  • Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Consultant, Total Quality Management, was invited for the conclave.

  • Prof. Masaki Imaai, Chairman, Kaizen International Institute, Tokyo, was invited as a Guest.

B. JICA Consultant invited as Guest Speaker for the Bio Medical Waste Management workshop in Vidisha

  • The Regional Office, MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB), Bhopal organized a workshop on “Bio Medical Waste Management” (BMW) in Vidisha district on 21st February 2010.
  • Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Consultant TQM & Project Operations Manager, JICA/MP RHP, was invited as a Guest Speaker.
  • Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, presented the implementation aspect of BMW management in health facilities. He emphasized on the importance of segregation, treatment and disposal of the waste.

C. HMIS Training for Sagar division

  • A one day orientation on NRHM reporting formats was organized by the State Government for Sagar division on 24th February 2010.
  • The facilitators included Ms. Apeksha Sharma, SDO, NRHM; Ms. Munmun, NHSRC Fellow; and Mr. Anand Tripathi, MP TAST.
  • The participants for the workshop were DPMs, BPMs, DDAs and DEOs of all the 5 districts of Sagar division.
  • Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM, was invited for the orientation.


D. Meeting with Commissioner, Sagar Division

  • A meeting of all the 5 District Collectors of Sagar division was called by the Commissioner on 24th February 2010.

  • JICA team comprising of Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM, were invited for the meeting.

  • Dr. Yamagata discussed about the positioning of the Project in Sagar division within the framework of NRHM and district level interventions by the Project.

  • The Commissioner has emphasized that JICA team should interact with the District Collectors on regular basis and share the progress of the Project interventions.

  • It was discussed and decided that JICA team would now onwards be invited by the districts for the monthly District Health Society meetings.

E. Meeting of Doctors by Panna District Collector

  • The District Collector specially invited Dr. Yoichi Yamagata and Mr. S. Fareed Uddin for the meeting of all the Doctors of the district on 28th February 2010.
  • Dr. Yamagata made a presentation on the Project activities and the status vis – a – vis NRHM. He also showed the GIS maps showing the number of deliveries district wise.
  • The District Collector has shown interest for upgrading the SHCs into delivery centres and has requested the Project to provide technical support.
  • VHND movie developed by the Project was screened during the meeting.
  • JICA team handed over the Illustrated Guidelines and the set of 3 video films to the Distict Collector.

F. Orientation of ANMs on AMTSL in Damoh

  • An orientation of 18 ANMs of the identified SHCs for providing delivery services was held on 11th February 2010 at the District Training Centre in Damoh.
  • The purpose was to orient the ANMs for conducting deliveries at SHCs.
  • JICA team comprising of Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM; Dr. Aboli Gore, Consultant HRM; and Ms. Richa Som, Consultant HMIS, facilitated the orientation.
  • JICA Japanese Volunteer Ms. Kana Shimoda and Block Coordinators (Mr. Imteyaz Ahmed and Mr. Shahwar Khan) were also present during the orientation.
  • The district representation comprised of the DPM and IEC Consultant.

G. Orientation on BMW management at CHC Tendukheda, Damoh

  • Block level orientation on management of Bio Medical Waste was held in Tendukheda block on 10th February 2010.
  • The participants (30) included BMO, BPM, BAM, Staff Nurses, LHV, ANM, Lab technician, store-keeper, ward boys, ayah and sweepers.
  •  Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and Consultant TQM, facilitated the orientation.

H. Orientation on BMW management in Tikamgarh

  • Block level orientation on management of Bio Medical Waste was held in Baldevgarh and Jatara blocks on 23rd February 2010 and in Prithvipur and Badagaon blocks on 26th February 2010.
  • The participants included the entire CHC staff – BMO, BPM, Staff Nurses, LHV, ANM, Lab technician, store keeper, dresser, Ward boys, Ayahs and Sweepers.

I. Orientation on NRHM reporting formats in Tikamgarh

  • Block level orientation on NRHM reporting formats was held in Palera and Jatara blocks on 24th February 2010 and in Baldevgarh and Badagaon blocks on
    25th February 2010.
  • JICA Coordinators (Ms. Rohini and Ms. Dimple Save) facilitated the orientation. The Block Coordinators were also present during the orientation.
  • The participants included ANMs, MPWm, LHVs and MPS from the field and BEE, DEO, BPM and other block staff.

J. Orientation on BMW management held in Chhatarpur district

  • Block level orientation on Bio Medical Waste (BMW) management was held in Bada Malhera block on 25th February 2010.
  • The orientation was facilitated by Mr. Kamlesh Mishra, Capacity Development Coordinator, JICA/MP-RHP.
  • The orientation was held at the CHC and the participants included BMO, BPM, Staff Nurses, LHVs, ANMs, Ward boy, Radiographer, lab technicians, store-keeper, dresser, DEO, ayahs and sweepers. The total number of participants was 24.

K. Visit of JOCV Program Coordinator to Tikamgarh district

  • Ms. Keiko Haneoka, JOCV Program Coordinator, JICA India Office, visited Tikamgarh from 22nd – 25th February 2010 to facilitate the process of shifting the Japanese Volunteer (JOCV), Mr. Yuta Yamauchi, to Tikamgarh and to make a courtesy visit to the district officials to introduce the JOCV.


3. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 28th February 2010 – Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S.Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and TQM Consultant, participated in the meeting called by the District Collector, Panna. The purpose of the meeting was
  • 26th – 27th February 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, had meeting with Dr. Thaneswar Bir, NIHFW, New Delhi, to discuss about the external evaluation of the Project.
  • 25th February 2010 – Mr. S. Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and TQM Consultant, met the District Collector of Tikamgarh to discuss about the progress of the Project interventions and to introduce the Japanese Volunteer, Mr. Yuta Yamauchi who would be posted in Tikamgarh.
  • 24th February 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr. S.Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager and TQM Consultant attended the meeting of the District Collectors of all the 5 districts of Sagar division at the office of the Divisional Commissioner, Sagar. Dr. Yamagata made a presentation on
  • 18th February 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager and Ms. Mari Tsuda, Project Coordinator, met the Divisional Commissioner, Sagar, to share the Project interventions.
  • 11th February 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, had a preliminary meeting with Dr. Thaneswar Bir, NIHFW, New Delhi, on the external evaluation of the Project.
  • 10th February 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the Development Partners’ meeting held at UNFPA office, New Delhi. Dr. Dileep Kumar, President, Indian Nursing Council, made a presentation during the meeting.
  • 9th February 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the Annual Day of the Indian Institute of Development Management, Bhopal.
  • 1st February 2010 - Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager, attended the dinner meeting at the Residence of the Ambassador of Sweden, Ministry of Health, Sweden, New Delhi. The meeting was held to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the MoU between the governments of India and Sweden. Officials from the Government of India were also present.

Monthly Progress Report January 2010



1. Summary

  • Core competency skills training completed for Panna district.

  • Other Project activities in the field were at a slower pace this month due to the Panchayat elections.



2. Development in the Project area /field


A. Sub-committee meeting for State PIP

  • The Sub-committee meeting for finalizing the State PIP was held on 19th January 2010 at the NRHM office.
  • A team of 11 National Officials were present for the meeting.
  • JICA was one of the active Development Partner involved. Dr. Aboli Gore, HRM Consultant; and Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant, attended the meeting.

B. Core Competency Skills training in Panna

  • The 2 days Core Competency Skills training was held in December 2009, wherein health workers from 3 blocks were oriented.
  • The orientation for the remaining 2 blocks namely, Ajaygarh and Devendranagar, was held from 6th – 7th January 2010.
  • The participants included ANMs, MPWm, LHVs and MPS of the entire block.

3. Meetings / Seminars / Workshops

  • 28th Jan 2010 – Research Fellows from SOCHARA visited the Project office to discuss about their positioning in the Project interventions.

  • 27th Jan 2010 – JICA Consultants attended the meeting on Quality Assurance held at MP TAST office, as a follow up of the meeting held on 20th Jan 2010. The purpose of the meeting was to share comments and observations on the Operational Manual and Essential Service Protocol prepared by MP TAST.

  • 7th Jan 2010- JICA Consultants (Mr. S.Fareed Uddin, TQM Consultant and Project Operations Manager; and Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant) attended the meeting on “Vision for HMIS in MP”, called by the newly appointed HMIS JD in MP TAST office.

  • 25th Jan 2010 – JICA Consultants (Mr. S.Fareed Uddin, TQM Consultant and Project Operations Manager; Dr. Aboli Gore, HRM Consultant; and Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant) attended the meeting called by Dr. Archana Mishra, Deputy Director, Maternal Health. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the usage of funds of JSY for IEC material on Maternal Health. Dr. Dhanila Narayan, Mr. Ashish Choubey and Mr. Manoj Choudhary from State IEC Bureau were also present.

  • 20th Jan 2010 - JICA Consultants (Dr. Aboli Gore, HRM Consultant; and Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant) attended a meeting in MP TAST office to discuss on the Quality Assurance Manual.

  • 18th Jan 2010 – JICA consultants met the Health Commissioner to share the updated GIS maps of the identified difficult districts/ areas.

  • 13th Jan 2010- A meeting was called by the Secretary Health, Mr. S.R.Mohanty, to discuss about the State PIP. Dr. Manohar Agnani, Health Commissioner, was also present during the meeting. Dr. Aboli Gore, HRM Consultant; and Ms. Richa Som, HMIS Consultant from JICA Project attended the meeting.

  • 8th Jan 2010 – Dr. Rajeev Shrivastava, Deputy Director, DoHFW, visited the Project office. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss about how to operationalise the Name based Tracking in Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Rajeev Srivastava pointed two main areas where JICA's support would be required, one was on designing the formats and thereby standardising the flow of information for the Name based tracking and the second would be on training for the state on Name based tracking.

  • 8th Jan 2010 – Meeting held with the Development Partners (DP) in JICA Project office. The purpose of the meeting was to revive the DP forum, to discuss the initiatives by each partner to avoid any duplication and to provide Technical Cooperation to the Government in a better and focused way. The partners included Dr. Yoichi Yamagata, Project Manager; and Mr.S.Fareed Uddin, Project Operations Manager & TQM Consultant from JICA Project; Mr. Manish Mathur, Deputy Program Manager, UNICEF; Dr. P.R.Deo, State Representative, UNFPA; and Ms. Priti Dave Sen, Team Leader and Mr. G.S.Sachdev from MP TAST.
